With respect to the Standard’s requirement statements, the handbook should be viewed as an implementation aid, not as an interpretation of the requirements.
Published: DOE-HDBK-1046-2016 (Reaffirmed 2022), Temporary Emergency Exposure Limits for Chemicals: Methods and Practice by Patricia Greeson — last modified Apr 18, 2022 01:48 PM
This document describes why TEELs are needed, their role in emergency planning in DOE, the history of their development, and the methods by which they are developed. TEEL values are developed by a team of chemists/toxicologists established by DOE Headquarters. The handbook is being reaffirmed because of a need to provide a pedigree for the process that an NA-40 internal document would not provide when questions are asked by local, state, tribal, Federal, or international government agencies or when a commercial company has a question about a TEEL value.

RevCom: Project Justification Statement (PJS) to Create DOE Standard, Implementing Release and Clearance of Property Requirements for use with DOE O 458.1, Radiation Protection of the Public and the Environment by Diane Johnson — last modified Feb 10, 2021 09:02 PM
This PJS is revised from the November 23, 2020 posted PJS in response to comments received during the initial review in RevCom. One commenter non-concurred with the former PJS on the basis that the scope of the document is more appropriate for a Standard rather than a Handbook as defined in DOE O 252.1A, Technical Standards Program, Appendix A. AU accepts the comment and submits the revised PJS seeking concurrence to publish the revised Guide as a Standard. The intent is to produce a Standard that clarifies requirements and provides implementation guidance to support DOE’s diverse missions and ensure the continued protection of the public and the environment. Additionally, the Standard will incorporate a consolidated list of approved pre-approved authorized limits supporting DOE O 458.1 clearance of property requirements. AU is proposing to use established volumetric.

New: DOE-STD-8001-2023, Environmental Protection Oversight Functional Area Qualification Standard by Diane Johnson — last modified Dec 11, 2023 02:15 PM
Functional area qualification standards (FAQS) establish common performance competencies in key nuclear facility functional areas for personnel in the Department of Energy (DOE) Technical Qualification Program (TQP). This FAQS establishes a common set of performance competencies to ensure designated personnel have the technical competency to perform the duties and responsibilities of an environmental protection oversight professional (EPOP). The content of this FAQS should be referenced and used, as appropriate, to develop vacancy announcements, interview questions, and other criteria associated with the recruitment, selection, and internal placement of personnel assigned to this FAQS.
RevCom: New PJS to Revise DOE-STD-1628-20XX, Development of Probabilistic Risk Assessments for Nuclear Safety Applications by Diane Johnson — last modified Dec 14, 2023 02:47 PM
The revision to the Standard will incorporate changes to referenced PRA methodology as well as DOE site feedback received on lessons learned from implementation and use of this Standard since the 2013 version. Much of the PRA guidance produced by ANS and the IAEA has been revised since the standard was published in 2013. This revision will update references throughout the standard to the current versions, ensuring that DOE facilities that employ PRA are using the most up-to-date methodologies. Additionally, the revision will provide clarification on the recommended uses of PRA, its ties to DOE-STD-3009-2014, its interfaces with DOE-STD-1189-2016, and configuration management of the PRA through the USQ process where it is a component of the DSA.
Published: DOE-STD-8002-2023, Explosives Safety Functional Area Qualification Standard by Diane Johnson — last modified Jan 08, 2024 07:10 PM
Functional area qualification standards (FAQS) establish common performance competencies in nuclear or high hazard facility’s functional areas for personnel in the Department of Energy (DOE) Technical Qualification Program (TQP). This FAQS establishes a common set of performance competencies to ensure designated personnel have the technical competency to perform the duties and responsibilities of an explosives safety oversight professional. This FAQS should be referenced and used to develop vacancy announcements, interview questions, and other criteria associated with the recruitment, selection, and internal placement of personnel who are assigned this FAQS.
