Reaffirmation Memo DOE-HDBK-1081, Primer on Spontaneous Heating and Pyrophoricity

This standard is being reaffirmed because of a need to maintain basic information on spontaneous heating and pyrophoricity of certain materials, such as combustible metals, that are not uncommon hazards within the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. Additionally, recent publication of National Fire Protection Association Standard No. 855, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems (2020) affirms a basic need for fire protection engineers, designers and emergency responders to address the various materials covered by this primer.
